PURGATORY (III) - DAMIAN GLAZEWSKI

What it’s like to be a designer in your country? What is the market like? What is your relation with other designers? Anyone you’d recommend? Are there any good places to find/shop local designers?

In Poland, where I come from, fashion is yet in its infancy. We have a lot of great designers, but we are still far behind the competition of the international fashion world. Poland loves tracksuits, people love comfort. They don't have a developed fashion sense and do not want to invest in luxury clothes from high quality fabrics. They prefer to buy cheap and the clothes are supposed to be comfortable. Of course there are always exceptions, I don't want to generalize. I love young and talented designers, I have many friends among them. I don't feel competition, we rather all support and wish each other well. I don't want to recommend any designer because it's a matter of taste and subjective assessment. Everyone is different, and recommending a designer I would not be fair to the rest, because most deserve attention. When it comes to places where we can get designer clothes, it's definitely Warsaw. This is where the most shoowroms with our designs are located. You can find design studios at every turn.

Is your country the place where you sell you work or are you focused on foreign market? Is there a country or city that you think would be the perfect place for you and your brand?

I don't sell my projects yet. I only carry out private orders. I lend clothes for photo sessions, I dress celebrities for important outings, I take part in fashion competitions. I show my projects for brand recognition. The official start of sales of my collections is to be a huge event preceded by a thorough analysis of the target group of my creations. I am a perfectionist, everything must be perfectly organized. I am not in a hurry to sell, because when I start I want people to go crazy at the sight of my work.

Where do you want to get and what do you want to achieve with your brand?

I would like to do what I love, i.e. design for people. It's not the place but professional fulfillment that is important for me. I would like to come to the point when I can reach professional fulfilment and not worry if I have enough money for food. Ultimately, I want to mark my presence in the fashion world and be remembered as a hard-working designer who made his dreams come true.
